mainly the doctor cause even the Pharmaceutical Companies want to sell their drugs ,they cant do that without the participation of the doctor ,also in our society the patient think that over treatment is beneficial and the doctor who prescribe more drugs  is a good doctor, so patients also should be educated about the toxicity of drugs

Doraid and Yacob: It is good to make contribution to the discussion and it would be very helpful to expand your contribution, for example drug companies advertise their products in many attractive ways in order to sell them and make profits. You both try to write more about the role of some drug companies in overtreatment.

Zaid: Very interesting contributions to the debate, keep writing and it is good to hear from you.  What is a reasonable method to educate the society about the side effect of some drugs? What do you think?

pharmaceutical companies, doctors, and patients are all responsible for over-treatment where the companies are just trying to sell drugs and make money , doctors are prescribing more drugs or doing more tests etc. and patients think that the more they take drugs the more they'll get better (as my college Zaid mentioned above) or even switching doctors or taking medicine without doctors permission.

in my opinion if the problem is related to all of these 3 categories (doctors, companies, patients) then the solution should be done by them all through making a lot of conferences, health care programs, meetings and other activities to explain the risks behind over-treatment and the right approach to handle the situation ...

Zaid: It is very interesting you mentioned educational programme, yes, I agree. All Medical Colleges should run conferences and meetings on overtreatment. What about the media: Newspaper, television, radio, what is the role of each one of them in educate the nation!? What do you think?

Mustefa: You mentioned very interesting and key points in your debate, you said: (i) Hold meetings and conferences: Who is willing to hold meetings and conferences? Drug Companies are drug sellers and want to make money. Who cares for the nation, who wants to help the nation, who wants to hold conferences? Let the students know what you think. (ii) People can buy medications from Pharmacies without restrictions. Do you think the Government should put restrictions on some medications? Discuss please!

Well, I'm not that knowledgeable about this but i think that the ministry of health can do something about it in partnership with doctors, health care providers, health centers and even companies.

concerning your second question, Surely there must be a legislation on which drugs are sold with a prescription and which drugs are allowed to be sold without a prescription (over-the-counter drugs) .

Mustefa: You are knowledgeable but you need to discover your knowledge and your ability. For example, Mustefa can invite a few friends to form a society to protect the public from overtreatment. You can call this society "Overtreatment Society”, or give it any name you like. One of the principles of Mustefa's society is to raise the awareness of the side effect of the overtreatment, start with students and with the doctors of the college and expand your society gradually. If you decided to form such a society, I will fully support you, because such society cares for the nation and I do care for my community.

Yaser and Mustefa: It can be difficult to blame doctors alone if hospitals don't offer training to doctors about the side effect of medications and about the consequences of the overtreatment. Medical students who aren't interactive and who don't want to improve and develop their knowledge/Skills should accept part of the blame. How nice to see students of S6 are learning, interacting and expressing their feelings about the side effect of medications!
